How to Practice Good Posture While Sitting at the Keyboard

Spending a significant amount of time in front of a computer can cause a host of issues if proper precaution is not taken. One of those issues is back pain from poor posture. Whether you are practicing your touch type using the best typing software or are merely surfing the web, the way you sit in front of the keyboard can have a physical effect.

One thing to note is that proper posture while sitting at a computer can actually increase your typing speed and accuracy. If you are practicing with one of our SpeedSkin covers, proper posture can be a simple trick to help focus and improve your skill even quicker!

Proper Typing Posture
  • Sit up straight with your feet on the floor and avoid tucking your legs under you or extending them forward.
  • Your elbows should be at a 90-degree angle, and your arms should be close to your side. Raise or lower your keyboard and chair until you are in a comfortable position.
  • Your wrists should be straight, and your fingers should be curled slightly over the top of the keys. Your thumbs should always be near the space bar.
  • Your eyes should stay on the text you are typing. Be sure to adjust the position of what you are typing, so you are not straining your neck to look at it.

3 Computer Classroom Rules You Should Embrace

Teaching children how to type and use computers is a great way to increase their ability to use and learn from technology. When you are in charge of a typing class at your school, there are many different rules that you should put in place around the technology. Below are three computer classroom rules you should utilize.

1.       Handle with Care

Computers in the classroom are an investment that you want to protect. While in the classroom, you should ensure you teach children how to handle these machines so they do not get broken. You also want to apply this to all aspects of the classroom, such as your typing software and SpeedSkin keyboard covers.

2.       No Food and Drink

Food and drink around computers can be detrimental. Though we may all be guilty of spilling some grime or coffee on our own personal devices, we want to ensure those in the classroom remain clean. Your students should not have any food or drink near the computers while they are in class.

3.       Always Log Off

Think of logging off as cleaning up after yourself. It prepares the computer for the next user and ensures the previous student’s work is not lost or tampered with. Make it a rule that all students must log off when the class is completed.

Encouraging Parents to Learn Touch Typing

Touch type is essential for many people in today’s age, as the advancement of computer-based technology is rapidly growing. Though many students are excited to learn to type at an accelerated pace, their parents may still be stuck using the hunt and peck method.

Fortunately, it is never too late for adults to master their typing skills. The SpeedSkin keyboard cover is an exceptional way to learn how to type by touch, rather than sight. Using SpeedSkin/PC or UltraSlim cover with your favorite software, one can master touch-typing in only 6-8 hours. One way to introduce typing to your students’ parents is to encourage them to utilize typing software at home for additional practice. You can also have students sign out your SpeedSkins to show their parents how easy it is to type without peeking!

Another great way to get parents involved in learning how to type is to offer a variety of take-home resources for students and their parents to keep at their computers. At SpeedSkin, we also provide a range of keyboarding posters and desk references to help learners of all ages better understand the touch type process.

You can also create a fun assignment by having your students compare their typing speed with their parents. Not only will it be enjoyable for the student, but it can help encourage parents to improve their own typing skills to create more of a challenge.

How Computer Experience Helps Students Score Higher on Online Exams

In today’s world, the mastery of technology skills is more critical than ever. Not only are basic computing skills necessary for communication, research, and jobs, but students with more computer and typing experience tend to perform better on their exams.

With everything transitioning to the digital age, online exams are becoming more common throughout schools across the nation. This includes essay portions, where exceptional typing skill is necessary to get through the exam within the allotted time. Typing is the foundation for many other computer skills and is one of the most important ones for students to master.

When you want to train your students how to type faster, the SpeedSkin keyboard covers are an exceptional product to use in the classroom. The orange, opaque cover prevents students from peeking or using the slow “hunt and peck” method. This allows them to focus on typing by touch, rather than sight, increasing their speed. Our product is also compatible with many different typing programs and is the perfect supplement to any curriculum.

With an increased typing skill, students can formulate their best thoughts in the exam before time runs out. It also reduces grammatical and typing errors, further increasing exam scores. How Keyboard Covers Help You Learn to Type

Teaching students to not look at the keyboard while typing is an instructor’s biggest challenge. The temptation is always there and continually looking down can impair one’s ability to learn quickly and efficiently. Fortunately, the SpeedSkin computer keyboard covers will help block out the letters on the keyboard for more effective typing instruction.

Our polyurethane covers sit atop of both standard and slim keyboards and are entirely opaque. Students of any age will not be able to peek underneath the cover for the letters, and it will prompt them to learn from memory alone. They provide a completely natural feel to the keyboard and are incredibly easy to install and remove.

One of the benefits of our computer keyboard covers is that you will not need to replace them as newer computer models replace current keyboards. Our covers can fit on a variety of keyboards from PC and Mac to Chromebook and other slim laptops.

The SpeedSkin keyboard covers are an excellent resource for any typing class. We offer a variety of prices and offers, depending on the amount you are ordering, and our product is compatible with nearly every typing software on the market.
